In honor of National Honeybee Day on Aug. 17, the State Farmers Market in Raleigh hosted a day centered around honeybees on Saturday, Aug. 18. Attendees young and old enjoyed the live beehive on display, face painting, honey sampling and learning the importance of pollinators. The event featured 11 vendors, all offering products ranging from honey to candles to soaps. Of all the goods, the mead – or honey wine – from Honeygirl Meadery and Starrlight Mead was by far the most popular. If you missed out on the fun this year, be sure to mark your calendar for next year’s event on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019.
