Margherita pizza

This is one of my favorite pizzas to order and now with this homemade sauce I can make it at home.  Add a salad and a fresh homemade dinner is ready to eat. Use the fresh tomato sauce as the base to make any style pizza.

Ingredients

1
pizza crust
3
cups fresh tomato sauce in slow cooker (aired September 7)
1
tomato, sliced thin
4
oz. fresh mozzarella, sliced ¼ inch thick
¼
cup fresh basil, torn

Directions

Step 1

Preheat oven and stone (if using) to 500 degrees.

Step 2

If not using a pizza stone, brush pizza pan with olive oil. Roll pizza dough to 12 inches in diameter and place on baking surface. Using a fork, puncture the pizza dough evenly to prevent crust from bubbling during baking.

Step 3

Bake crust for 7 minutes. Remove from oven and top with fresh tomato sauce, sliced tomatoes, and mozzarella. Place pizza back in oven until cheese melts, 5-10 minutes. Top with fresh basil and serve.
