Sandy Mush Herb Farm
We have been collecting, nurturing & growing plants for more than 60 years - 1972 marked the beginning of the nursery & arboretum, specializing in rare & unusual herbs, perennials, trees & shrubs. The cove is protected by conservation easement with Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy & we are a member of the Buncombe County Farm Heritage Trail. We began shipping plants nationally in 1978; we host national & international visitors to the gardens.

We are in a conserved, self-contained watershed/cove bordering on the county line between Madison & Buncombe counties. Two tributaries to Bald Creek & Sandy Mush Creek rise here - clear & vigorous. The land hosts & protects myriad native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, birds, amphibians, pollinators. The original farmstead is now the nursery, botanic garden and arboretum. The former fields are terraced display and test gardens with full-grown Acer griseum, Stewartia, Cornus kousa, Metasequoia, Thuja and more! The 60 year old rhododendron produce a spectacular colorful show in April & May. The greenhouses & conservatories offer a chance to enjoy a living library of plants.Business availability: Year-Round
