During the Month of June, the Department of Agriculture participated in one of the largest healthy lifestyle awareness events in the Department Of Defense’s history. This has become an annual festival that combines the best of the military communities’ efforts to help improve the health and wellness of service members and their families. Fort Bragg’s theme this year was “Healthy Family, Healthy Pets!” The commissaries offered their ever-popular farmers market, selling the freshest produce with coupon-bundling specials that pair with fresh fruits and vegetables. Got To Be NC staff supported efforts by promoting the “Buy local, buy NC” theme onsite.

At our second stop in June, we visited one of our partners, Harris Teeter in Charlotte. Shoppers and community members were invited to enjoy a complimentary bag of fresh produce and meet the local farmers who supply Harris Teeter with the freshest, high-quality products. Shoppers mixed and matched North Carolina tomatoes, peaches, cucumbers, squash, Vidalia onions, sweet potatoes and more. Attendees sampled watermelon grown in our state and had a meet and greet with the Watermelon Queens from NC & SC.
